Traumatic brain injury:

Updated: Jan 19, 2023

Traumatic brain injury is a leading cause of disability.

In Canada 2% of the population lives with a traumatic brain injury.

A traumatic brain injury can have various causes.

Major causes of traumatic brain injury are sports-related accidents or motor vehicle accidents.

A stroke can also lead to a traumatic brain injury.

Traumatic brain injury comes with the following symptoms:

  • Behavior or mood changes.

  • Confusion or memory problems.

  • Convulsions or seizures.

  • Dilated pupils or blurred vision.

  • Dizziness, fainting, or fatigue.

  • Headaches.

  • Nausea and vomiting.

  • Restlessness or agitation.

  • Sensitivity to light and smell.

  • Sleeping too much or too little.

  • Slurred speech.

Often traumatic brain injury is accompanied by whiplash symptoms because of a sports accident or motor vehicle accident.

The combination of whiplash and traumatic brain injury can put a person in a constant state of stress/over-stimulation (fight or flight response).

Osteopathy Concussion Treatment can relieve muscle tension and reduce over-stimulation (get out of fight or flight mode).

Getting out of fight or flight mode can be an essential step in recovering from traumatic brain injury.

Manual Osteopath Treatment is effective for Concussion / Traumatic Brain Injury.
